Siegefall

Timeline: 2015 to 2016

Platform: Mobile (iOS and Android)

The Game: Siegefall was created to capitalize on the still strong mid-core strategy market, which at this point had very fierce competition and two dominant titles from Supercell (Clash of Clans and Boom Beach). Yet, this game carved out its own smaller fan base, as the quality and production values of the title was quite high, and at that time it was elected one of the best new real-time strategy games launched in 2015 by mobile games media.

My Contributions:

  • Main data analyst during Live Ops, routinely developing Python code using data science libraries such as Pandas, Statsmodels and SciPy.
  • Executed AB tests and evaluated results using a number of statistical techniques like T-Tests, Z-Tests, ANOVA and Bayesian analysis.
  • Balanced all the economy, including all resource generation and consumption (taps and skins), stochastic systems and reward templates for Events and Bundle Packs.
  • Led the game design during the Live Ops phase of the game, implementing big and ambitious features like Guilds, social gameplay, time-limited Events, bundle packs and Lottery.Game economy design: resource systems, shop features and progression trees;
  • Game economy balancing, parametrizing reward progression and costs, bundle packs and promotions, and loot tables in the game;
  • Programmed an economic simulator in Excel and VBA, projecting progression and resource curves of two different player personas of a full year of sessions.
  • After version 1.0 launched, I took the mantle of Lead Game Designer and led the game design for 6 different updates over the course of nearly a year.
  • Data analysis and AB test assessments: during this time I was spending more and more time querying the BI database to extract data for the economic balancing of updates, as well as running ANOVAs to evaluate the results of our AB-tests.
  • Over time, I was responsible for the vast majority of data analysis around player behavior and player progression in this game.
  • Python library for data analysis, building a set of dozens of functions that facilitated everyday querying using Pandas, Statsmodel and Sublime Text.
